Nutritionists spoke about a healthy alternative to milk

Cow's milk is a very useful product, but it is not suitable for everyone. The body of some people cannot properly digest the lactose contained in it, there are cases of allergies. Vegans do not consume animal milk according to their beliefs. There are many plant-based alternatives on the market.

Almond milk is one of these options. Nutritionists advise choosing almond milk without added sugar. As Netdoctor experts explain, one glass of this drink completely compensates for the body's daily need for vitamin E and more than a third for calcium.

Almond milk has very little protein compared to cow's milk, as well as fewer carbohydrates, but a lot of healthy fats (up to 3 g per glass). Without sugar, this drink should not provoke an increase in blood sugar levels, which is important for diabetics.

Experts note that almond milk is very rich in antioxidants. A large amount of vitamin E helps prevent cardiovascular diseases and some types of cancer.

Although initially almond milk is not very rich in vitamins B12 and D, many brands of this drink are additionally enriched with them. Vitaminized almond milk can compensate for the lack of vitamins in a vegetarian diet.

Almond milk has less phosphorus compared to cow's or soy milk. This means that such a drink may be better suited for people with kidney disease. However, it is necessary to get a doctor's recommendation in this matter.

Experts also point out that when giving up cow's milk products, it is advisable to eat more iodine-containing foods. It is worth adding more fish, shrimp or seaweed products to the diet.
