Nutritionists talked about diseases that occur in people after the age of 50 due to alcohol consumption.

Nutritionists Megan Roosevelt and Katherine Sebastian talked about the negative impact of alcoholic beverages on the body of a person over 50 years old. Most often, various diseases can develop as a result of alcohol abuse at this age.

Obesity and protein and fiber deficiency

Alcohol contains a lot of empty calories. It has no fiber, protein, fat, or any other satiating nutrients. For this reason, alcohol is most often combined with food.

Type II diabetes

Most often, alcoholic beverages are mixed with syrups and carbonated water to obtain cocktails. Thus, they become more caloric, as a result of which diabetes can develop.

A blow to the liver

People over 50 often have pills with them to take throughout the day. If you dilute them with alcoholic beverages, you can provoke health problems. When taking medication, the liver is exposed to severe stress, and alcohol can only increase this.

Frequent constipation

Alcohol is a liquid, and with its use and refusal of idle time water, a person may experience constipation. At the same time, even products with fiber will not prevent constipation, which is associated with dehydration. It can only work if you drink enough water.

Weakness and high blood pressure

Alcohol is most often absorbed together with salty or sweet snacks. With an excess of sodium in the body, fluid is retained, provoking high pressure. As a result, heart attacks and strokes can occur. Calcium can also be washed out of the bones. Eating sweet snacks increases the level of glucose. Regular sugar has no nutritional properties. It increases the risk of obesity and diseases of the heart and blood vessels, dementia and mood disorders. Uncontrolled use of sugar can provoke the occurrence of some types of cancer.
