Contrary to popular opinion, even edible mushrooms can cause harm to health under certain conditions. Nutritionists talked about the main differences between useful and harmful products.
As stated by Doctor of Medical Sciences Mykhailo Ginzburg, there are “wild” and “domestic” mushrooms, which differ in the level of health benefits.
< p>“They increase the amount of fiber in our diet due to chitin, a dietary fiber that triggers anti-aging processes,” says the nutritionist. A completely different situation is observed with mushrooms collected in the forest, which, if insufficiently processed, contain a large number of toxins and allergens.
In certain cases, edible mushrooms cause poisoning: Ginzburg associates this with an overreaction in some people. Mushrooms, rain mushrooms, morels, truffles and porcini mushrooms are useful, while boletus mushrooms should be avoided.
The latter have too bitter a taste, which causes problems with the gastrointestinal tract in children and the elderly. Finally, any type of such products are contraindicated for individuals suffering from colitis, gastritis and peptic ulcer.
