Obesity has been shown to worsen Alzheimer's disease

Obesity has recently become an increasingly serious problem, doctors note. People lead a sedentary lifestyle and eat unhealthy food. To find out if the weight is really considered excessive from a medical point of view, you can use the body mass index (BMI).

This condition also has a negative effect on health: for example, it increases the risk of heart disease. In addition, a new study showed that obesity can worsen the course of Alzheimer's disease.

This was found out by scientists from the Institute of Neurology at the University of Sheffield in Great Britain.

When overweight, experts learned, nerve tissue becomes more vulnerable. At the same time, a healthy weight in the case of a mild form of dementia caused by Alzheimer's disease helps to preserve the structure of the brain.

The authors of the work emphasized that more than 50 million people in the world live with this disease. However, despite innovative research in this area, there is still no cure for it.

In the fight against Alzheimer's disease, prevention plays an important role, according to experts, including maintaining a healthy weight. They noted that people don't often think about the importance of proper nutrition when it comes to dementia.
