One of the best products for naturally reducing high cholesterol

According to research data , one of the best foods for reducing high cholesterol is red yeast rice: it acts as a natural “medicine” that reduces the amount of total cholesterol, LDL “bad” cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood.

Being a fat-like substance, cholesterol is not harmful by nature – in fact, it is necessary for the body to produce healthy cells. However, its high level is harmful, as it contributes to the formation of fatty deposits in blood vessels and arteries, which increases the risk of heart disease – the main cause of death for people around the world.

According to data, one of the best products for naturally reducing high cholesterol is red yeast rice – an ingredient of traditional Chinese medicine and cooking, obtained by growing red rice with yeast that ensures its fermentation.

“Studying the possibility of reducing high levels cholesterol due to red yeast rice, the researchers concluded that the product has the ability to significantly reduce the concentration of total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol and total triacylglycerol compared to placebo”.

Scientists attribute this property of the product to a significant amount of monacolin – this substance is chemically identical to the active ingredient of lovastatin, which lowers the drug's cholesterol. Back in 1977, a Japanese scientist, Professor Endo, discovered that the Monascus yeast strain produces a natural substance capable of lowering cholesterol. It was found that this component inhibits HMG-CoA reductase, an enzyme that is important for the production of cholesterol in the body. The substance was named moncacolin K.

Since then, scientists have discovered eight monacolin-like substances that have the properties of reducing the concentration of cholesterol in the blood. Researchers consider the use of red yeast rice, which contains them, to be one of the best natural ways to treat hypercholesterolemia. Such rice is safe in the long term – this is confirmed by the fact that it has been a staple food in Asian countries for thousands of years. But we remind you: before switching to new products or supplements in order to reduce high cholesterol, it is always important to consult with a therapist,” the scientists summarized.
