One pre-workout drink can lead to a stroke

When it comes to sporting achievements, some athletes may sacrifice safety for results. For example, use energy drinks before training. According to health experts, this is a dangerously increased risk of stroke.

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) warns that energy drinks usually contain excessive amounts of caffeine, sugar, additives and stimulants such as guarana , taurine and L-carnitine. This combination of ingredients can lead to an increased risk of stroke in healthy people.

“Energy drinks contain megadoses of caffeine and sometimes other stimulants. We found that some people who use them end up in the hospital with strokes or serious brain hemorrhages, says rheumatologist Rula Haj-Ali. “They're usually young, otherwise healthy people in their 30s and 40s.” But sometimes increased sensitivity develops over time. In addition to strokes, in some people such sensitivity increases the risk of death.
