“One simple trick”: the doctor told how to stop snoring and get a good night's sleep

An expert said there is a solution to snoring and all it takes is “one simple mouth trick”.
A psychologist said that “repeating vowels out loud” before going to sleep can be a solution to the problem.
“Exercises for the throat against snoring are an excellent way to strengthen the muscles of the throat and stop their vibration during sleep – the cause of snoring. Repeat each vowel (aeiou) aloud for a few minutes several times a day, and eventually you will learn.”
Why do we snore?
Snoring can occur for a number of reasons and personal factors.
“Snoring is caused by things like the tongue, mouth, throat, or airways in the nose vibrating when you breathe. This is because these parts of your body relax and constrict when you sleep.”
You are more likely to snore if you:
- are overweight
- smoke
- drink too much alcohol
- sleep on your back
Sleep apnea can increase your risk of snoring because your breathing the pathways are temporarily blocked while you sleep. Your doctor can help manage snoring in certain cases, although they will need to determine if there is a specific medical condition that is causing the habit.
At your appointment, your GP will most likely examine the inside of your mouth. and nose to check for problems that may be causing your snoring.
