Orange juice can help in the fight against dementia

Dementia is a disease characterized by memory loss, slow thinking. Scientists have not found a cure for this disease. However, the risk of developing the disease can be reduced by strengthening the brain.
Studies published in the scientific journal Frontiers in Neuroscience have shown that eating citrus fruits and their juice can improve the condition of the brain, especially during its aging.
According to scientists, this is due to polyphenols, the so-called flavonoids, which are naturally present in oranges, lemons, limes and grapefruits. To study their effectiveness, scientists from the University of East Anglia in Norwich collected hundreds of studies on the effects of citrus flavonoids on brain cells and the nervous system, as well as 10 experiments conducted on humans.
As a result, it turned out that the polyphenol, which contained in this type of fruit, has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Both of these qualities are important for protecting brain tissue from damage.
“We observed the same effect from the consumption of citrus fruits and their natural juice both in healthy people and in those with neurological diseases. Also, experiments on animals have shown that adding these fruits to the diet can improve memory,” said one of the authors of the study, Dr. David Vozur.
