Oranges may reduce your risk of a vision loss known as macular degeneration. The first symptoms often include a blurry or distorted area of your vision. Fortunately, oranges reduce your risk of macular degeneration by 60 percent. Researchers found that people who regularly ate oranges were less likely to develop macular degeneration over the 15-year study period.
While those who regularly consumed citrus fruits had the greatest level of protection, even eating an orange once a week appeared to provide “significant benefits.”
A 60 percent reduction was seen in those who ate at least one serving of oranges daily.
When it comes to the powerful part of the fruit responsible for these benefits, researchers attribute it to flavonoids—a variety of compounds found naturally in many fruits and vegetables.
People who ate at least one serving of oranges daily had a lower risk of developing macular degeneration compared to people who never ate oranges.
