Pancreatic, liver and esophageal cancer: an oncologist told who is at risk

The presence of pancreatitis and diabetes, bad habits, the age factor – all this is associated with an increased risk of developing cancer.

The Ministry of Health stated: the most dangerous, that is, the ones that take the most lives of patients, cancer in Ukraine are pancreatic, liver and esophageal cancer. According to the leading researcher of the National Institute of Oncology named after N. N. Blokhin Alexey Kotelnikov, all these types of cancer have a common feature – they are extremely difficult to detect at an early stage. Symptoms are absent, or they manifest themselves minimally and go unnoticed, and the manifestation of symptoms that are detected indicates the neglect of the tumor process.

According to the oncologist, for the most deadly types of cancer, the prospect of creating methods that would allow detecting the disease at an early stage is the foggiest.

“Early diagnosis of pancreatic cancer does not exist and is not expected – there are no such scientific achievements that would allow us to testify that diagnostics will allow detecting cancer at an early stage,” said Alexey Kotelnikov.

The doctor also spoke about the likelihood of suffering from those types of cancer that were named by the Ministry of Health – pancreatic, liver and esophageal cancer.
