Peculiarities of Chinese upbringing: how to make a child a genius

The Chinese approach to raising children is distinguished by its strictness, bordering on tyranny. However, it is no secret that Chinese children, compared to European or American ones, do much better in school. Let's figure out why this happens and what character qualities are instilled in young residents of the Celestial Empire from childhood.

By European standards, Chinese education is an absolutely inhumane method. But the point is that it is part of the culture that has been formed in China for centuries. We decided to study the phenomenon of Chinese education in more detail to understand how it works (and what results it leads to).

The main goal for a child is to work hard and become better

In China, parents, regardless of the family's income, try to invest as much as possible in their child. The reason for this is the fiercest competition: you can't be average in China, otherwise you won't achieve anything in a country with a huge population. To get a job, even a top manager, even an ordinary employee, you have to withstand a huge competition – there are a lot of applicants for one place. A child is hammered into their head from childhood that in any business they do, they must achieve the maximum. You need to work, otherwise you will become a failure and achieve nothing. A child is a kind of project that must justify the efforts invested in him. Of course, they love him, but there is no talk of any mischief.

Regardless of the child's age, his day is scheduled by the hour. Classes, additional classes, clubs, sections, creative studios, etc. Chinese children simply have no free time, only for sleep and food.

Parental control and physical punishment

Parents strictly monitor the progress of their children. Often, mom or dad carefully check their children's homework before they go to university. The Chinese cannot afford a haphazard attitude towards controlling the educational process. “Study and let them study, then we will somehow get them into university,” or “school is their area of responsibility, we trust the child” – such an attitude is not welcome in China. Parents are responsible for their children, and therefore they strictly control all areas of their lives, hence the emergence of harsh methods of upbringing, up to and including physical punishment. Spanking for any offense is a generally accepted tradition. Here, no one is interested in the psychological state of the child, complaints of fatigue with a really huge workload from kindergarten age will be regarded as laziness and unwillingness to work.

Teachers “pull” everyone

Peculiarities of Chinese education: how to make a child a genius

As for school, for a teacher, a very important indicator of a student is his diligence. In Chinese schools, there is no concept of a “teacher’s favorite,” because everyone is treated equally and neutrally. And everyone’s performance is approximately the same, because each student works at the limit, and teachers do their best to bring him to the required level. For the Celestial Empire, the situation is not typical, as in our schools, when there is a certain “star,” “prodigy,” “pride of the school” in the class. There, graduates graduate with the same high level of knowledge. All teachers are super responsible, they are focused on results, their main task, regardless of the age of students, is to teach them what is included in the program.

For the Chinese education system, there is also no division into second-graders and first-graders; each student receives the maximum possible and, as a result of hard work, achieves a certain result, not lagging behind others.

The main traits that are brought up in Chinese children are phenomenal hard work, perseverance and leisurelyness (the pace and speed of completing the task does not matter here, the main thing is to achieve a result). In any child, they manage to find their potential, their strong side and develop it, no matter what it is. That is why in different areas and at different social levels, all specialists do their work at a high level.

The will of the elder is the law

The attitude of children towards their parents and all adults in China is extremely respectful, regardless of age. The older generation is an unshakable authority for both a small child and a teenager and a student. Adults are not argued with, they do not deny, their words are not subject to doubt or discussion. Children must obey. In a Chinese family, the will of the elder is the law.

For Ukrainian children, the word “no” often does not exist; if we hear it, we understand that we can find some loophole and invent something. And our children also grow up with the realization that the main thing is to be able to agree and get along. In China, this does not work. There are very strict rules, “negotiating” and “smoothing” will not work here, no matter what sphere it concerns. Violation of the rules is punishable by punishment and cannot be otherwise. The Chinese system is strict and absolutely inflexible.
