Pension payments are under threat: what Ukrainians abroad need to know

Recently, all pensioners must undergo physical identification every year, even if they live outside Ukraine. The new rules for Ukrainian pensioners are aimed at ensuring social justice and the correct calculation of pension payments.

However, the Pension Fund of Ukraine assures pensioners that after successful identity verification, all delayed payments will be returned to the pensioner's account.

Why is physical identification necessary

This procedure allows Ukrainian state authorities to ensure that pension payments are received for the correct purpose, and that the recipient remains in good standing and meets the criteria for further pension receipt.

There are several convenient options for identification:

  1. Apply to the Pension Fund of Ukraine in person if you are within the country.
  2. Use your personal electronic account on the portal PFU, using a qualified electronic signature (KEP), Diya.Signature or Diya ID.
  3. Conduct a video conference with a representative of the PFU.
  4. Visit a foreign diplomatic institution of Ukraine to confirm personal presence.

It is worth noting that according to the new law, Ukrainian pensioners who are abroad will continue to receive pensions on their accounts in Ukrainian banks.
