Personality traits that increase the risk of death from a heart attack
A recent study found that certain personality traits can increase the risk of dying from a second heart attack. For example, these are impatience, irritability.
Heart attacks are caused by the sudden cessation of blood supply to the heart. Without this nutrition, the heart is damaged and its cells begin to die. Without proper treatment, the heart muscle suffers irreversible damage that can lead to death. Often, after surviving the first Heart Attack, people die from the second. This is especially common after so-called “silent” attacks, which are tolerated without obvious symptoms, misinterpreted and untreated.
Doctors state that the results of survival in a heart attack depend on a number of variables, including reaction time and overall the state of human health. A study conducted by scientists at the University of Tennessee (USA) shows that personality traits also affect the risk of death from a second heart attack.
The experts analyzed data from more than 2,300 patients.
“Researchers found that people who had “hostile” personality traits were at a much higher risk of dying from a heart attack in the next two years after a heart attack. Such traits include sarcasm, cynicism, indignation, offensiveness, impatience, irritability,” said project co-author Dr. Tracy Vitori.
Studying the impact of negative emotions on human health, experts came to the conclusion that the above-mentioned traits character are associated with increased blood clotting time, increased levels of adrenaline, cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood. All of these features are known factors in heart attacks, worsening their clinical outcomes.
“We know that controlling lifestyle habits improves the outlook for heart attack patients. Our study suggests that improving “hostile” behavior can also be an effective preventive measure for heart attacks,” the authors of the scientific paper shared their opinion.
