Poor sleep causes heart disease 2-7 years earlier

Researchers from the Universities of Southern Denmark and Sydney studied data from 308,683 adults and found that poor sleep accelerates the development of cardiovascular disease.

Scientists assessed sleep duration, complaints of insomnia, snoring, daytime sleepiness, and tendency to fall asleep early or late. The data was then compared with indicators of cardiovascular health.

It turned out that women who had sleep problems developed cardiovascular disease two years earlier. In men, the problems appeared even earlier. Overall, people with sleep-disordered breathing and other similar problems developed cardiovascular disease more than seven years earlier.
