Scientists: consumption of sugary of drinks correlates with a doubling of the risk of bowel cancer.
“Drinking two or more sugary drinks daily in adulthood is associated with a doubling of the risk of bowel cancer occurring before age 50, at least in women,” – the authors of the project claim.
Scientists added that one daily serving of such drinks is associated with a 16% increased chance of developing colorectal cancer. The same portion consumed during adolescence is associated with a 32% increased risk.
According to the British Medical Journal (BMJ), popular sugary drinks (soft and fruit-flavored drinks, sports and energy) is one of the most saturated sources of sugar in the human diet. Most often, their sweetness is provided by the addition of fructose. New evidence suggests that fructose may disrupt the intestinal barrier function and increase its permeability. Such a violation means that potentially dangerous and toxic substances enter the bloodstream, which can activate inflammation, which can become a trigger for cancer.
Scientists recommend giving up the consumption of sweetened beverages, preferring healthier options.
