Why does the concentration of uric acid in the body increase? It is often influenced by eating habits and lifestyle in general. In particular, the elimination of uric acid from the body is slowed down by purines – protein compounds that are found in particularly large quantities in certain foods.
Factors that disrupt the breakdown of uric acid include obesity, alcohol abuse, and stress.< /p>
Men are at risk. Scientists from the University of Limerick have discovered that high levels of uric acid in the blood can reduce life expectancy by several years. Men are especially vulnerable.
“If the concentration of uric acid in the blood of men exceeds 535 μmol/l, life expectancy is expected to be reduced to 11.7 years”, – the conclusion of the researchers was published in the European Journal of Internal Medicine.

Too low a level of uric acid is also considered dangerous, but this disorder occurs very rarely and is usually associated with a metabolic disorder.
