Proper nutrition will protect against acute kidney damage

Researchers from Germany found that there are several types of nutrition that prevent acute kidney injury. This is a dangerous complication called acute renal failure.

Human kidneys filter toxins from the body, so any problems with these organs threaten the most serious consequences, arising from the inability to remove harmful substances and decay products. Acute renal failure is not only common, but also a very serious disease that leads to hospitalization and death. Its risk increases with age, and unfortunately, doctors currently do not have any effective measures for the treatment of kidney failure, as well as its prevention.

However, there is more and more evidence that nutrition and especially specific diets protect the kidneys from negative effects, including blood shortages, infectious diseases, some side effects from drugs or surgical interventions. Researchers from the University of Cologne analyzed 6 types of diets, including a simulated fasting diet, a ketogenic diet, a reduction in amino acid consumption, two diets with limited amounts of the sulfur-containing amino acids methionine and cysteine, and a reduction in caloric intake through total calorie reduction.

It turned out. , that reducing sulfur amino acids and reducing calories are effective in protecting against kidney damage in animal models. All these diets combine the already proven ability to increase the lifespan of various living organisms and their availability to humans. Therefore, their prophylactic use in the treatment of acute kidney injury can be very useful and become one of the therapeutic options for patients.
