Proven: Living with a partner protects against diabetes
1
Type 2 diabetes often occurs due to an unhealthy lifestyle. In particular, due to an unhealthy diet. At the same time, studies show that some other factors also affect the development of this disease.
Scientists have found that living with a partner has a positive effect on a person's physical health. And, regardless of how many years people have lived together.
It also doesn't matter how harmonious the relationship is in a couple. In a study published in BMJ Open Diabetes Research & Care, scientists have suggested that a partner can encourage a person to take better care of themselves.
Scientific studies have also shown that people who live together have lower blood sugar levels. The glucose levels in this group of participants decreased by 0.21% overall. And this is a fairly significant improvement when compared to those who live alone. This became known thanks to the analysis of data on 3335 elderly people who participated in the English Longitudinal Study of Ageing (ELSA).
