Quality of vision: the main signs of conjunctivitis

Conjunctivitis is an inflammatory disease of the transparent mucous membrane (con' conjunctiva), which covers the surface of the eyeball and the inner part of the eyelid. Conjunctivitis rarely affects vision, but it can lead to various complications.
Symptoms of conjunctivitis
According to experts from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention), there are several types of conjunctivitis, depending on the cause of its occurrence. It can be viral, allergic, bacterial. The condition can also be caused by some irritant, such as a foreign object in the eye.
There are common signs of conjunctivitis that you should pay attention to. These include:
- pink or red color of the whites of the eyes;
- edema of the conjunctiva;
- watery eyes;
- feeling as if something got into the eye and wanting to rub it;
- itching, irritation and/or burning;
- discharge (pus or mucus);
- crusts on eyelids or eyelashes, especially in the morning.
If these symptoms appear, you should consult a doctor.
Prevention of conjunctivitis
< p>To reduce the risk of developing the disease, you need to remember the rules of personal hygiene, according to the Mayo Clinic website:
- do not touch your eyes with your hands;
- wash more often hands;
- use a clean face towel;
- change pillowcases more often;
- do not share eye makeup and other personal hygiene items.
