One of the key symptoms that contribute to the recognition of colon cancer is traces of blood in the stool.
Experts are alarmed that cases of colorectal cancer (specifically colon tumors) are increasing among people under the age of 50 years – those who are not yet recommended to undergo a prophylactic colonoscopy. This was stated by German therapist Berndt Birkner, who specializes in the field of gastroenterology.
In an interview, Birkner told about the symptoms with which you should go to the doctor to check for possible colon cancer. According to the expert, one of the most informative symptoms, which should always be paid attention to and which should be clarified in a medical facility, is visible blood in the stool.
“If blood is visible in or on the stool when using the toilet, this an important warning sign that requires a mandatory examination,” said the doctor.
In addition, Birkner named three other symptoms that should also prompt a person to consult a doctor:
- unclear vomiting,
- severe abdominal pain,
- stool retention.
