Reconstruction of the legendary “Flying Saucer” building begins on Lybidska Street in Kyiv
The architectural monument “Flying Saucer” on Lybidska Street in Kyiv will retain its authenticity and function alongside the shopping center project. Currently, according to the restoration project and the previously issued permit, repair and restoration works are being carried out.
It is noted that the State Inspection of Architecture and Urban Planning of Ukraine has issued the appropriate permit for the reconstruction of non-residential buildings in the shopping center.
What exactly is being reconstructed?
As noted by the Ministry of Infrastructure, the project object is located in the immediate vicinity of the monument of architecture and monumental art of local importance “The building of the Ukrainian Institute of Scientific and Technical Expertise and Information (Ukrainian Institute of Scientific and Technical Expertise and Information – UkrINTEI), known as the building ” Flying saucer”, built in the style of Soviet architectural modernism.
In 2020, the building was included in the list of objects of cultural heritage of Kyiv.
According to the project, several buildings behind the monument (which are historically attached to it, adjacent and located next to it and are not objects of cultural heritage) are combined into one building, which create an internal ensemble through the construction of the internal space.
