Red, yellow and green: which bell pepper is healthier?

The homeland of sweet pepper is considered to be South America – from there Christopher Columbus brought the vegetable to Europe. And the pepper got to Ukrainian shelves from Bulgaria – that's how it got its name. We tell you why the whole world loves this vegetable, and who should add it to their diet.

What are the benefits of bell peppers?

It contains many useful substances: vitamins A, B, E, P, potassium, sodium, calcium, zinc, magnesium, phosphorus, silicon, iron and iodine. The vegetable is especially valued for its record-breaking content of vitamin C: 100 g of the product contains as many as three daily requirements, which is more than in lemon and black currant.

Who needs to eat bell peppers?

Everything. It helps prevent many diseases: for example, Parkinson's disease. Scientists from the University of Washington have found that the vegetable reduces the risk of its development by 30%: the substance anatabine stimulates brain receptors and prevents damage to nerve fibers. Bell peppers are also particularly indicated for:

  • Smokers, as their bodies absorb vitamin C more poorly.
  • People with diseases of the circulatory system and blood vessels: the combination of vitamins C and P strengthens blood vessels and increases their elasticity. Bell peppers also help prevent thrombosis and atherosclerosis.
  • Hypertensive patients and people with gastrointestinal diseases: capsaicin in peppers stimulates the work of the stomach and pancreas, lowers blood pressure, thins the blood and prevents the formation of blood clots.
  • Heart patients – lycopene in bell peppers strengthens the heart muscle.
