AMD is a chronic disease of the central region of the retina (macula), which leads to the gradual loss of central vision, necessary for clear perception of objects.
Experts from the Mayo Clinic School of Medicine (USA) have determined that the Mediterranean diet is more beneficial for older people aged 85 and older.
The authors came to concluded that following a diet rich in nutrients, including fruits, vegetables, legumes, and fish, and reducing consumption of red or processed meat and salty foods, can prevent the development of AMD with high probability.
