Retirement was called a blow to health

Modern pensioners sleep significantly more and move less after leaving work. Researchers from Finland warn that this increases the risk of various health problems.

The study showed that modern elderly people sleep more and move less after leaving work and retirement. And this increases the risk of serious health problems.

The study followed 515 retirees for a week before and after retirement to see how their habits changed.

After finally leaving work, retirees slept an average of 36 minutes more per day, but their level of physical activity decreased by one hour per day.

In this regard, researchers urge older people to adhere to a regimen of at least 30 minutes of moderate exercise every day. This category includes brisk walking or playing tennis.

Lack of physical activity in old age is associated with many health problems. These include dementia, hypertension and cardiovascular disease. Lack of movement also increases the risk of some types of cancer, including colon and uterine tumors.
