Rheumatoid arthritis is a common chronic disease of the connective tissue, which mainly affects small joints and leads to deterioration of their mobility. Scientists have repeatedly proven that the development and course of the disease are influenced by certain foods and drinks.
In one of the studies, experts studied the connection between the consumption of red meat and the development of arthritis. A total of 733 patients were examined, 707 of whom were included in the analysis. They were divided into two groups according to the consumption of red meat: less than 100 g per day and more than 100 g per day.
It is noted that cooked red meat contains saturated fats, various preservatives and other harmful health components that can contribute to adverse health consequences.
In the course of the study, it was found that in patients with a large consumption of red meat, the onset of rheumatoid arthritis occurred almost 6.5 years earlier , than in patients with low consumption of this product.
In addition, the analysis showed that this relationship was particularly evident in smokers and overweight patients.
“The obtained data show , that eating less red meat can be a recommendation for patients at risk of developing rheumatoid arthritis,” experts concluded.
