The highest and most scandalous president of Ukraine
I don't really want to tell the story of the life of this so-called president. We think that you yourself remember all the scandals connected with him. However, in this material, we decided to talk about Yanukovych's convictions, which were reported on “Telegraf”. And also to share facts from the life of the “traitor” that you might not know.
15 scandalous facts from the biography of Viktor Yanukovych
Viktor Yanukovych was born in the village of Zhukivka in Donetsk region on July 9, 1950 . Age — 74 years. The sign of the Zodiac is Cancer.
Yanukovych was born into a family of a metallurgist and a nurse. When he was two years old, his mother died, and his father's new family did not accept Vitya, so he lived with his grandmother.
The fugitive president had a difficult childhood in poverty, which may have led him to criminal activities . In 1968, at the age of 17, he received his first criminal conviction for robbery, which involved three years in prison, but he served only half a year in a children's colony for cooperating with the administration.
Yanukovych has many criminal records. In 1970, he worked as a gas engineer at the Yenakiyiv Metallurgical Plant, but again found himself on the dock — this time for causing bodily harm, receiving two years in prison, which he served in full.
When Yanukovych decided to build a political career, they tried to hide information about his criminal record. Initially, in the autobiography submitted on November 18, 2002 in the Verkhovna Rada before being appointed to the post of prime minister, he noted these convictions. However, later this information was tried to be “erased”. It was reported that Yanukovych's convictions were allegedly not only canceled, but also recognized as a mistake by the courts, but it is impossible to verify this, because the documents were destroyed after the statute of limitations expired or “lost”.
After the events on the Maidan, the shooting of the Heavenly Hundred and Yanukovych's escape from Ukraine opened a number of criminal cases against him. He is accused of abuse of power, corruption, large-scale embezzlement and treason.
In January 2019, the Obolonsky District Court of Kyiv sentenced Viktor Yanukovych in absentia to 13 years in prison. He was found guilty of high treason and aiding in waging an aggressive war against Ukraine.
Viktor Yanukovych is the tallest president of Ukraine. His height is 192 cm.
Yanukovych has published the most books among the presidents of Ukraine (we doubt that he wrote even one of them himself). The ex-president earned 31.5 million hryvnias from 30 “manuscripts.”
From the very beginning of the 2004 election campaign, Viktor Yanukovych repeatedly found himself in curious situations, which later became popular topics of popular humor and memes. For example, the word “Professor” became an Internet meme that symbolized not only Yanukovych, but also politicians with a low level of literacy in general, who strive to appear educated. Similar excuses of Yanukovych later began to be called “Yanukisms”.

But that's not all of Yanukovych's embarrassments. In 2004, a student from Ivano-Frankivsk threw an egg at the then president, causing him to fall. Arriving at the Verkhovna Rada for his inauguration, Yanukovych almost got hit by a door that closed in his face. And on May 17, 2010, a wreath fell on Yanukovych during a flower-laying ceremony in Kyiv. On June 30, 2010, during a meeting with the president of Sri Lanka, he prematurely ended the Sri Lankan anthem, not waiting for it to finish. On October 25, 2010, when the Canadian prime minister was speaking in two languages, Yanukovych, not understanding this, asked for “Translate, please.”
“Mezhyhirya” is a separate topic for conversation. Until 1935, these lands belonged to the Mezhyhirsky Monastery, and since 1990, the residence for foreign delegations was located here. In 2002, after becoming prime minister, Yanukovych received a house with an area of 325 m² for use, and in 2003, through a charitable foundation, he rented another house with a plot of 3 hectares for a symbolic fee for 49 years. This complex is surrounded by a 5-meter-high fence and includes a marina, equestrian club, shooting range, tennis court, hunting grounds and other recreational facilities. After Yanukovych's escape, an almost golden toilet, a golden loaf and many other strange things were found in his “estate”, on which the fugitive president spent insane sums.
Also, Yanukovych privatized part of the hunting farm in the village of Sukholuchcha. There he built hunting lodges, roads and other facilities for himself.
Yanukovych's personal life is not so interesting. His wife Lyudmila Yanukovych is a housewife. The former president has two children — a son, a businessman, Oleksandr, and a former People's Deputy, Viktor. After the opening of Mezhyhirya, it became known that Yanukovych's mistress Lyubov Polezhai lived with her daughter Maria.
And Yanukovych also wanted to return to Ukraine. During the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Yanukovych was in Belarus, waiting for the opportunity to return, as soon as the Russian authorities planned to “take” Kyiv.
