Scientific employees of the organization from the UK “Alzheimer's Society” discovered a connection between a person's use of alcohol and the risk of developing a special form of dementia.
This is the so-called alcoholic dementia, or Wernicke-Korsakoff syndrome.
< p>The symptoms of this disease are lapses in memory filled with fictional events, as well as the loss of the ability to acquire new skills, assimilate information and change personal characteristics.
In medicine, it is believed that “alcoholic dementia” arises from two interrelated reasons. One of them is damage to the blood vessels of the brain, the other is a decrease in the assimilation of thiamine by the body.
According to the authors of the study, the main reason for the development of Wernicke-Korsakoff syndrome is the abuse of alcoholic beverages. 14 servings of 8 ml of alcohol are considered the weekly norm of alcohol, indicated by employees of the British National Health Organization.
