Cooking your own food protects against stress and prolongs life.
According to scientists, the propensity for longevity largely depends on the quality of a person's life. For example, a high level of stress can shorten our life on earth by almost three years.
According to a study by the National Institute of Health and Welfare, in men, excessive stress is an even more significant factor in reducing life expectancy than lack of physical exercise.
In turn, psychotherapist Charlotte Hastings states that there is a fairly simple “culinary” way to prolong life precisely by reducing stress. This method is independent cooking.
The expert explains that cooking involves a number of actions (shredding, slicing, mixing, etc.), as well as a certain concentration, thanks to which a person involuntarily switches gears, distracts himself from problems or experiences – in this regard, cooking acts like meditation.
According to Charlotte Hastings, the parasympathetic nervous system is calmed down during cooking – this is facilitated by the release of the neurotransmitter dopamine. As a result, there is a certain rhythm of the heartbeat, there is a calming and relaxing effect. As a result, the general psycho-emotional state improves.
“Cooking with your own hands has a positive effect on well-being and mental health, it is a good way to relax and distract yourself from the problems of the previous working day, achieve peace, improve your mood and continue without problems fall asleep,” says the psychotherapist.
As other ways to get rid of stress, the specialist mentions the presence of social contacts and maintaining friendly communication, as well as physical exercises.
