There have already been statements about the usefulness of chocolate for the activity of the cardiovascular system found confirmation in the form of the results of a new study by scientists from the USA.
“Chocolate can positively affect the functioning heart and blood vessels,” the European Journal of Preventive Cardiology quotes American researchers.
The publication published the conclusions of scientific experts representing the Baylor Medical College. These scientists analyzed the data of 300,000 people. Their summary confirms that chocolate consumption is beneficial in the prevention of coronary heart disease.
The authors of the study postulate that “in people who eat chocolate at least once a week, the risk of developing coronary heart disease is reduced by 8%.” .
Scientists associate the beneficial effect of eating chocolate with the effect on the body of the bioactive components of cocoa beans that go into the production of the product (this includes, in particular, stearic acid, flavonoids, polyphenols). According to researchers, thanks to these substances, the heart muscle becomes more durable, and the content of “good” cholesterol in the blood increases, which helps to reduce the level of “bad” cholesterol, which clogs arteries and increases the risk of heart attacks.
Experts emphasize that we are talking about a high-quality product with a high cocoa content, used in moderate quantities.
