Scientists from China tried to find out what happens to a person's body if he refuses dinner for a year. There is an opinion that moderation in the evening meal helps to lose weight.
The authors of the work were specialists of the Medical University of South China. Over the course of a year, they monitored nearly 140 obese volunteers. People were randomly divided into two groups. The first of them followed a diet that was limited both in terms of time and the number of calories. In particular, they could eat between 08:00 and 16:00.
Representatives of the second group could eat at any time, but without exceeding the calorie limit. It turned out that reducing the calorie content of food along with skipping dinner really contributed to weight loss. However, the effectiveness was almost the same as in the second group, which simply reduced the number of calories in the daily menu.
The authors of the study came to the conclusion that it will not be possible to fight excess weight by just giving up dinner. The key to success is controlling the calorie content of food. In addition, in most cases, refusing the evening meal is problematic for a person. Some of the volunteers did not want to continue participating in the experiment even before its end, even though they were under the supervision of experts. It is even more difficult for one to succeed.
Experts warn that eating twice a day can have negative consequences, partly resembling intermittent fasting. First of all, the kilograms lost in this way can quickly return. There is also a threat of problems with the work of the gastrointestinal tract, and there is a possibility of a decrease not only in fat, but also in muscle mass.
