Scientists have calculated the exact moment of a person's death

Based on observations of almost 500 patients, scientists concluded that death in persons who had a cardiac arrest, it occurred after 4 minutes and 20 seconds.
This is stated in the study. Scientists emphasized that these indicators are extremely important in the case of taking organs from the deceased for donation.
After all, biomaterial can be taken from a person who agreed to a posthumous transplant only when death has been definitively established. Because even after the heartbeat has stopped, other organs of a person can still function and support their vital activity.
The removal of organs from babies 75 seconds after their cardiac arrest was a particularly hot point of discussion, according to the researchers.
< p>In general, the practice of the “5-minute rule” is widespread among doctors – if a person cannot be resuscitated within this time, then death can be declared. A team of scientists decided to test this principle and conducted a large-scale study in 20 intensive care units in three countries. In particular, specialists monitored 480 patients for 30 minutes after the cessation of cardiac activity.
Thus, doctors managed to establish that short-term heartbeat was restored in only 67 patients (14%), but they still died. In most cases, the “revival” of the heart for a few seconds occurred 1-2 minutes after the first stop. However, the maximum interval was exactly 4 minutes and 20 seconds.
In general, the results of the studies practically confirmed the “rule of 5 minutes”, but it worked on people who were connected to life support devices. So, in other cases, the indicators can be excellent.
