Scientists have determined which daytime sleep is harmful

In some cases, daytime sleep is harmful to health , so scientists advise not to sleep too long, and also not to sleep at the wrong time.
Daytime sleep can be a way to restore strength and good health, but not all daytime sleep is useful. Scientists at the Mayo Clinic determined that “sleeping at the wrong time of day or too long a day can have unpleasant consequences”. According to the study, people who sleep during the day more than three times a week, as well as those who sleep more than two hours, suffer from poor sleep at night and, in general, from lack of sleep.
“If you experience insomnia or poor sleep quality at night, daytime sleep can exacerbate these problems.”
Also, inadequate daytime sleep can lead to sleep inertia, where a person may feel disoriented upon waking.
“After a bad night sleep, some people may be tempted to sleep longer. However, it is better to avoid this and try to stick to the usual time of going to sleep”.
Experts note that daytime sleep can disrupt the circadian rhythm. Circadian rhythms are physical, mental, and behavioral changes that follow a 24-hour cycle. Being natural processes, they respond to light and darkness and affect most living things. According to a study published by Oxford Academic, most adults will only benefit from a very moderate amount of daytime sleep – from 10 to 20 minutes. Such a short and timely sleep (excluding the second half of the day) can reduce fatigue, increase productivity, and improve memory.
