Scientists have discovered a link between longevity and high levels of vitamin D in the body

Scientists from the University of South Australia have published a report on a large-scale study on the connection between a high risk of premature death and low blood vitamin D concentrations.
307.6 thousand records from the UK Biobank were studied over 14 years. It turned out that low levels of vitamin D in the body – less than 25 nmol/l – are the cause of premature death in many people.
On average, the blood concentration of vitamin D in the study participants was 45.2 nmol/l.
It is noted that the connection between low levels of vitamin D and premature death was known, but there was no specific data on the causes.
As a result of the current study, it turned out that the cause of premature death, and in turn vitamin D deficiency, is respiratory diseases.
“Our study provides convincing evidence of the link between low levels of vitamin D and mortality, and this is the first study to take into account respiratory diseases as a cause of death,” said Dr. Josh Sutherland, lead author of the study.
