The study showed that eating certain foods at certain times of the day appears to have a powerful prolonging effect on diabetics.
Not only calories and the size of a portion affect the condition of diabetics, but also the time of day when they eat certain foods, scientists from Harbin Medical University (China) have come to this conclusion. Researchers have found that people with diabetes who eat according to their “internal food clock” live longer.
Experts analyzed the data of 4,642 people with diabetes who are participants in a long-term research project. Scientists studied the eating habits of diabetics and compared this data with how many people died during the study period from heart disease. A fairly clear pattern emerged, from which researchers now have clear dietary recommendations for diabetics. According to them, people with this disease need to eat certain foods at certain times of the day.
The ideal diabetic breakfast: potatoes.Potatoes contain a large amount of potassium, a mineral that the heart needs. Potassium is necessary not only for the cardiovascular system by itself, it is also a synergist of magnesium – two “heart” minerals are well absorbed by the body only in a duet. In addition, potatoes contain copper, phosphorus, iron, vitamins of group B and C. It is most useful boiled or baked in a jacket, so it stores more vitamins and fiber.
What should diabetics eat for lunch and dinner. According to scientists, it is more useful to eat whole grain products in the afternoon, dairy or fermented milk products and green vegetables such as broccoli or spinach in the evening
“We noticed that potatoes in the morning, whole grains foods in the day, vegetables and milk in the evening prolong the lives of people with diabetes,” summarizes the findings of the head of the study, Dr. Qingrao Sun.
Which foods increase the risk of death in diabetics? The authors of the project state that that diabetics should not eat processed meat in the evening. Diabetics who ate sausage, ham or bacon at this time of day were more likely to die from heart disease than average. The research team now hopes that optimal meal times and appropriate foods will be included in future guidelines for diabetics.
