Scientists have discovered the benefits of chamomile tea for people with type 2 diabetes
0 < p>The level of sugar in the blood can rise significantly after a meal. Chamomile tea can help improve the indicator, scientists found out.
During the study, the results of which were published on the website of the US National Center for Biotechnological Information (NCBI), experts sought to study how chamomile tea affects glycemic control and antioxidant levels in people with type 2 diabetes.
64 people with this disease between the ages of 30 and 60 took part in the study. They drank chamomile tea three times a day immediately after meals for eight weeks. The control group also followed this routine, but instead of tea, they had water.
Compared to the control group, the participants who drank chamomile tea had significantly lower levels of glycated hemoglobin (its concentration reflects the average blood glucose content over the period about three months) and serum insulin, and the total antioxidant capacity also increased.
“Short-term consumption of chamomile tea has a beneficial effect on glycemic control and antioxidant status in patients with type 2 diabetes,” experts concluded. At the same time, they added that a larger sample and a longer period of observation would be needed to demonstrate significant clinical improvements.
