Scientists have explained why it is useful to drink chicory in the spring

Chicory in its own way the essence is a weed that can be found in a meadow or in a park. However, this weed with blue flowers is valued by herbalists and traditional healers. And this is not surprising, because the inconspicuous plant has a unique chemical composition and has powerful healing properties.

What is useful

Chicory root is rich in inulin (a natural sugar substitute). The content of inulin in chicory reaches 60%. Doctors recommend drinking a decoction of the root to people suffering from diabetes. Especially a lot of inulin in root plants is observed in the cold season, in the spring this indicator drops sharply.

Thanks to its rich composition, chicory root is widely used in pharmacology for the production of herbal preparations. Its decoction is drunk for many diseases: liver, kidney, gastrointestinal. Chicory coffee is useful for people recovering from illness. It helps normalize intestinal microflora after antibiotic therapy, tones the body. Chicory is also useful for those who suffer from a lack of appetite or have a problem with excess weight. For men, this drink is an excellent prostatitis prevention. Consuming a drink made from chicory root has other healing effects:

  • promotes bile production;
  • has a mild diuretic effect;
  • strengthens the heart and vascular walls;
  • prevents the formation of blood clots;

How to use

Drinking chicory coffee is very useful, especially in late winter/early spring, when our body suffers from a decline in strength, seasonal blues, and is prone to colds and flu. This useful coffee substitute is indicated for adults and children over 3 years old. It has very few contraindications. Among them, you can only see individual intolerance, a tendency to allergies and bronchial asthma.

You can buy roasted ground chicory in the store. The drink prepared from it has all the beneficial properties of the plant. It is brewed like coffee: Pour boiling water (1 cup) with powder from a pack (2 tsp). Boil for several minutes until the liquid begins to foam. Remove from heat and let the mixture cool.

Add a spoonful of honey as a sweetener. You can also use granulated sugar or condensed milk. Flavor this drink with both milk and whipped cream. However, in order for chicory coffee to bring maximum health benefits, it is worth refraining from adding sweeteners to it.

To obtain a healing effect, chicory is drunk three times a day half an hour before meals. This method is indicated for those who want to strengthen the heart or relieve increased nervous excitability.

It is advisable to discuss it with your doctor if you have serious health problems (diabetes, kidney, liver, heart and vascular diseases).

You can also prepare a healthy drink from herbal raw materials purchased at a pharmacy – dried chicory roots.

If you need to boost your vitality and gain strength, brew tea from crushed chicory root. To do this, take 1 tbsp. l. of plant raw materials, add 1 tbsp. l. of mountain ash berries to it, pour the mixture with boiling water (0.5 l). Insist the drink for several minutes.

Such tea can be sweetened with a spoonful of natural honey. To normalize the functioning of the gastrointestinal tract, take the following ingredients in equal parts: crushed chicory root; mountain ash (berries); peppermint. Pour 3 tbsp. l. of the dry mixture with boiling water (0.5 l). Cook in a water bath for 10 minutes. Let it brew for 3-4 hours.

Drink the resulting infusion three times a day, half an hour before meals, a few tablespoons.

To increase appetite and overcome anemia, drink juice squeezed from chicory leaves, three times a day, 15 ml. The course is 1-1.5 months. The beginning of spring is the best time to try chicory root coffee and include it in your daily diet (if you have no contraindications to it).
