Scientists determined that the difference in blood pressure measured in the right and left hand, can indicate a high risk of stroke, heart attack and indicate a quick death.
During the study, experts conducted a meta-analysis of 24 different studies, in which about 54 thousand people from Europe, the USA, Africa and Asia.
Scientists studied information on the difference in blood pressure between the left and right arms and tracked the number of deaths, heart attacks and strokes that occurred over a ten-year period.
As it turned out, significant a difference between the systolic (top) blood pressure readings in the two arms may indicate narrowing or stiffness of the arteries, which can affect circulation. It found that each additional millimeter of mercury difference increased the risk of angina, heart attack or stroke by one percent over the next 10 years. At the same time, a difference of 10 millimeters of mercury is the upper limit of the norm.
