Scientists have learned which diet can harm men's health

Nutritionists from the University of Worcester combined the results of several controlled studies involving a total of 206 volunteers. As part of these works, the participants sat on diets with different levels of fat content. After the authors of the new paper analyzed the results of studies with humans, they also studied data from similar studies conducted on mice.

As a result, scientists found that a low-fat diet reduced testosterone levels by an average of 10 — 15%. The decrease in testosterone was more pronounced in men on a low-fat vegetarian diet, up to 26%. Scientists say this can be harmful to health, as low levels of this hormone contribute to a number of diseases, such as diabetes and high blood pressure.

Low-fat diets tend to include whole grains , lean meats such as skinless chicken, fish, fruits, vegetables and legumes. Although scientists note that such a set of foods is considered healthy, experts emphasize the importance of including in the diet of men fats found in meat, nuts and dairy products such as cheese and milk.

Ideally, men should consume plenty of monounsaturated fats, found in olive oil, avocados, and nuts, to boost testosterone levels. However, although fat is an important component of a healthy, balanced diet, experts generally advise against eating foods high in fat, especially butter, fatty meats and cakes. High levels of saturated fat in your diet can raise your cholesterol, which also increases your risk of heart disease.
