According to the World Health Organization (WHO), 55 million people worldwide suffer from dementia, and this number is expected to increase to 78 million by 2030 and to 139 million by 2050.
On unlike cardiovascular disease, actions aimed at supporting the brain are less clear. But one study found that drinking tea can halve the risk of developing dementia.
In a study, a group of scientists from the National University of Singapore looked at how regular tea consumption affects the onset of dementia. The study involved more than 950 people from China aged 55 and older.
The results showed that those who drank tea daily had a 50 percent lower risk of developing dementia. For participants with the APOE e4 gene, which increases the risk of Alzheimer's disease, daily tea consumption reduced the risk by 86%.
