Scientists have named a feature that dramatically increases the risk of diabetes

Millions of people worldwide suffer from diabetes, a disease that affects the body's ability to properly produce or use insulin. At the same time, an even greater number have prediabetes. Many people have a higher risk of developing diabetes. And this is especially relevant for women with one particularity.
It is about pregnancy and childbirth. In particular, about the birth of a large child. Experts say that a baby's birth weight can affect the mother's long-term health. If the child weighs four or more kilograms at birth, then we are talking about macrosomia. It increases the risk of developing diabetes in the mother.
The causal relationship was bidirectional. In particular, the presence of diabetes can increase the probability of having a child weighing four kilograms or more, but also having a child with this weight can increase the probability of developing diabetes.
In some cases, gestational diabetes can manifest itself. In this case, during pregnancy, the woman's placenta produces a hormone that prevents the body from using insulin effectively.
“Women who have given birth to a baby with macrosomia are recommended to be screened for type 2 diabetes as early as possible, as macrosomia can be a marker of gestational diabetes. diabetes,” says Corrie Miller, assistant clinical professor at the University of Hawaii.
