It's about fish , grown on the farm. Wild salmon is not dangerous. According to data from Harvard University, farmed salmon may contain high concentrations of polychlorinated diphenyls (PCBs). Compared to wild salmon, PCB concentrations are eight times higher in farmed salmon.
Polychlorinated diphenyls (PCBs) are industrial chlorinated chemicals. They have long been banned for commercial use, but traces of them can still be found in the environment. Scientists warn that regular consumption of farmed salmon may increase the risk of developing prostate cancer.
“The biological and toxic effects of PCBs and their metabolites are partly related to their ability to interact with several cellular and nuclear receptors. This changes signaling pathways and gene transcription,” says chemist Ronald Heights from Indiana University.
