American scientists conducted a study that once again proved , that physical activity and cognitive abilities are related to each other.
90 middle-aged and older people (50 to 74 years old) participated in the study, who wore accelerometers during physical activity and then underwent cognitive testing at home. The head of the study was Dr. Raenn Moore, associate professor of psychiatry at the University of California School of Medicine in San Diego.
The study showed that on the days when the participants were most physically active, it was easier for them to cope with control tasks. On days when physical activity was lower, cognitive abilities also decreased.
The correlation between physical activity and cognitive abilities was maintained when adjustments were made for various comorbidities.
