Did you know that this a dangerous mistake in behavior leads to rapid aging of the skin and the body as a whole.
How to stop the aging process?
It has been noticed that people who lead an active lifestyle live longer and look better than their peers But there's also a psychological aspect to the aging process.
According to new research from Trinity College Dublin, the way we answer this question could predict our physical and mental flexibility , and how we will feel in old age. People with a positive assessment of old age are most likely to remain physically and mentally vigorous, researchers believe.
Just one mistake makes us age. The results of the study were published in the journal “Personality and Individual Differences”. 4,135 participants in the Irish Longitudinal Study of Aging (TILDA) were given a questionnaire about aging and tested to measure their cognitive and physical abilities. And two years later, the test was repeated.
After comparing the data, the researchers observed a relationship between people's perception of the aging process and their health.
Those who treated old age as a negative process tended to move slowly and had lower cognitive abilities than positive opponents. Even after accounting for treatment, mood, life circumstances, and other health issues, the researchers found that those who viewed their aging positively performed better on cognitive tests.
“We all get older and if negative attitude towards the aging process throughout life, it can have a negative effect on mental, physical and cognitive health,” says Deidre Robertson, Ph.D., postdoctoral researcher at Columbia University.
So, the main mistake that causes us to age is a negative attitude towards old age. It's time to check your attitude, because we're all getting older. Additional research shows that the benefits of a positive attitude only benefit the future. You are more likely to recover from disability if you think that your best years are ahead of you.
