Scientists have revealed the secret of deep sleep: do not wake those who are sleeping
In the USA, scientists have revealed one of the secrets of deep sleep. It is in this phase of sleep that the structures that connect brain neurons to each other, synapses, are built and strengthened.
This is the conclusion reached by scientists together with neurobiologists from the University of California in Los Angeles, Newsroom reports. They explained that the most vivid dreams occur during the formation of synapses. Yes, the brain does not sleep, and neurons interact with each other.
For their study, scientists created a quantitative model of changes in brain activity as a child grows – from birth to fifteen years. This model showed for the first time that the function of sleep changes with age.
As a result, it was found that around the age of two and a half, the main function of sleep changes: from building the infrastructure of the brain to repairing it and cleaning it from damage on a daily basis. During such a period, the phases of REM sleep in children shorten and its duration decreases.
Scientists urged not to wake babies during the REM sleep phase, as the brain is being reorganized at this time. Then throughout life, a person will be dominated by slow sleep, which is responsible for recovery.
