Scientists have revealed which people develop dementia faster

It is known that depression negatively affects on the risk of developing Alzheimer's disease. A new preliminary study reports that if people do develop Alzheimer's disease, those with depression may develop symptoms of dementia about two years earlier than those without depression, and three years earlier if anxiety is present.< /p>

“More research is needed to understand the impact of mental disorders, such as depression and anxiety, on the development of Alzheimer's disease,” says study author Zachary A. Miller, MD, of the University of California, San Francisco.

In addition to the most common mental disorders, depression and anxiety, the study also screened for a history of bipolar disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, and schizophrenia.

Of the 1,500 people with Alzheimer's who participated in the study, 43% had a history of depression, 32% of anxiety, 1.2% of bipolar disorder, 1% of PTSD, and 0.4% of schizophrenia.
