Scientists from Great Britain and Australia conducted a study that confirmed that the special passion for sweets in patients with frontotemporal dementia may be associated with specific disorders in certain areas of the brain.

49 patients with dementia, including 19 with frontotemporal dementia, and 25 healthy people took part in the experiment. After 10 hours of abstinence from food, the volunteers were offered breakfast: they could choose the products and their quantity independently.
It turned out that patients with frontotemporal dementia preferred foods with a high sugar content and also consumed almost twice as much more calories than patients with another type of disease or healthy people.
