Food and drink play a big role in liver health. New research has shown that eating red meat increases the risk of developing NAFLD.
Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is characterized by the accumulation of fat in this organ. The disease can be asymptomatic, but there is a risk of developing serious complications.
In the study, scientists from Harvard Medical School analyzed health data from approximately 78,000 women over 20 years.
The results showed that those who ate one serving or less of red meat per week were significantly less likely to develop NAFLD.
However, those who ate such meat daily or several times a day had the highest risk of developing the disease. Moreover, a similar effect was observed for both processed and unprocessed meat.
