Scientists: Mediterranean diet slows down brain aging

A proper diet that includes foods rich in nutrients is very important for the proper functioning of the brain, especially in old age. This statement is confirmed by the study of a group of specialists from Edinburgh.

More than 500 people aged about 79 without any signs of senile dementia participated in the study of Scottish scientists. The results of the experiment show that elderly people who follow a Mediterranean diet performed much better on tests than those who ate otherwise.

Their diet improved verbal and visual-spatial abilities. The principle of nutrition includes a large amount of greens, fruits, vegetables, olive oil and legumes. To get the best result, you should limit the consumption of sweets, fried foods and processed food.

Researchers concluded that such a diet has a positive effect on the brain due to the high content of magnesium and folates, which are rich in leafy greens.
