Scientists from the Boston University School of Medicine have found out that hypertension doubles the risk of developing epilepsy. It is necessary to take into account this tendency, the probability of the occurrence of a dangerous disease decreases as a result of taking medicines.
Specialists analyzed the results of a 20-year follow-up of 2986 volunteers, whose age was 58 years on average. During the study, 55 cases of epilepsy were observed in the patients.
In people suffering from hypertension, the threat of epileptic attacks occurred twice as often. The researchers excluded from the sample people with normal blood pressure who took antihypertensive drugs on a case-by-case basis. Scientists found out that the risk of developing this disease was 2.44 times.
According to the World Health Organization, about 50 million people in the world suffer from epilepsy. Currently, this disease is the most common among neurological ailments.
