Scientists believe that hazelnuts can help people with diabetes. To evaluate the effect of nuts on markers of glycemic control in people with this disease, scientists conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials. A total of 12 studies were included in the analysis.
“The combined analyzes show that hazelnuts improve glycemic control in people with type 2 diabetes, supporting their inclusion in a healthy diet,” the scientists concluded. However, they added that longer trials are needed to prove these findings.
Specialists from the Cleveland Clinic (Cleveland Clinic) citing research also note a lower risk of developing heart disease and death in people with type 2 diabetes who used nuts.
In another study, scientists studied the effect of tree nuts (walnuts, pistachios, macadamia nuts, pecans, cashews, almonds, hazelnuts and Brazil nuts) on total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol (also called “ “bad” cholesterol). 61 trials were included in the analysis.
A systematic review and meta-analysis of data showed that nut consumption can lower total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol. “The main factor that determines the reduction of cholesterol is the dose of nuts, not their type,” the scientists noted.
